Nanjemoy Creek/ Friendship Landing

Located in Charles County, Nanjemoy Creek offers miles of scenic marshes which abound with wildlife. The winding creek has many high banks that offer protection from strong winds and are nesting sites for the Bald Eagles who call Nanjemoy Creek their home.

Nanjemoy Creek also provides a nesting home to one of the largest great blue heron colonies on the East Coast. Approximately 1,000 pairs of herons return each year on or around Valentine's Day to bring in the next generation of this species--the East Coast's largest wading bird, standing four feet tall with a six-foot wing span

The Friendship Landing ramp and dock area is designed as a Free Fishing Zone, which simply means no fishing license is required. Located on Friendship Landing Road, just off Route 425 in Nanjemoy, this one-acre boat launching facility is open year-round, from dawn to dusk.

Other places that are interesting to visit and that are close by are Port Tobacco (now no longer a port or on any waterway, for that matter), and a large number of very old Episcopal and Methodist churches.
